Restoring Roots
Restoring Texas, One Tree at a Time
Replanting the Future. Together.
Across Texas State Parks, we’re growing something bigger than trees—we’re growing a movement. From the coastal prairies of Galveston to the hill country’s rugged trails, Get Outside Alliance is partnering with park staff, volunteers, and local communities to plant native trees that restore biodiversity, combat invasive species, and strengthen the ecosystems that make Texas unique.
Why It Matters
Healthy habitats start with native species. By planting trees and shrubs like Red Mulberry, Southern Live Oak, Yaupon, and Wax Myrtle—and removing invasive palms—we help bring balance back to Texas’ most threatened landscapes. These native plants aren’t just beautiful—they’re critical to soil health, storm resilience, native wildlife, and clean air.
When you plant a tree with us, you’re not just digging a hole. You’re planting the seeds for:
Endemic biodiversity
Resilient local ecosystems
Cleaner air and healthier soils
Community pride and future stewards of nature
Our Work in Action
At Galveston Island State Park, 18 volunteers joined forces to plant 49 native trees and shrubs while removing more than 24 invasive palms in a single day. Projects like these help restore the coastal prairie ecosystem—one of the most endangered habitats in North America
To date, we’ve enlisted over 1,000 volunteers in hands-on conservation projects at Texas State Parks. Our tree planting initiative builds on this foundation, focusing our energy on reforestation and biodiversity through direct action.
Educating While Planting
Every project includes an educational experience. With the help of park rangers and naturalists, volunteers learn about native plant species, ecosystem services, and the cultural and ecological history of the area. Our goal is to inspire lasting connections between people and the land.
