Parks for All: A Campaign for Access, Inclusion, and Impact

What started with a call from a passionate park superintendent has grown into one of our most ambitious campaigns yet — Parks for All, an ongoing effort to make Texas State Parks truly accessible to everyone.

When Superintendent Aaron Johnson of Purtis Creek State Park reached out with the dream of creating a fully ADA-compliant, universally accessible park, we knew we had to get involved. So we launched Parks for All — an annual initiative focused on awareness, volunteer power, and funding for accessibility-focused projects. So far, we’ve helped build four wheelchair-accessible campsites and a new, properly leveled trail in the park’s day-use area. And we’re just getting started. Later this year, we’ll be installing ADA-compliant fire pits, building a new accessible trail from the parking lot to a beloved fishing pier, and adding handrails that ensure safe access for all. These aren’t just projects — they’re blueprints. Blueprints for how Get Outside Alliance, together with Texas State Parks, can lead the way in building outdoor spaces that welcome everyone.
