About the role

Get Outside Alliance runs family-friendly volunteer stewardship projects at Texas State Parks. Volunteer captains lead the work on project day. The Project Coordinator handles the gear so captains don't have to, and makes sure every project ends with a clean record of what got done.

Responsibilities

  • Run the Houston gear storage unit: keep it organized, cleaned, and stocked against our standard gear list.
  • Pack and haul gear to each project at parks like Brazos Bend, Galveston Island and Huntsville, hand it out, and bring it back clean.
  • Support captains on site and take the headcount.
  • Take project photos, including the group shot, and send a short summary of the work within five business days.
  • Submit timesheets and mileage logs every pay period.
  • When you can't make a project, arrange gear pickup with that day's captains.

Requirements

  • A reliable vehicle that can carry tools and coolers, plus a valid license and insurance.
  • Comfort working outdoors in Texas weather, and the ability to lift about 40 lbs.
  • Availability for most project weekends, usually two a month.
  • Reliable and on time.

Preferred

  • Trail work or volunteer experience.
  • An eye for photos.

Details

  • About 4–6 hours per project, including gear prep
  • $20/hr, paid biweekly
  • Mileage reimbursed at the IRS rate
  • Reports to the President
  • Background check required

Conservation Captains

Conservation Captains are volunteers who lead GOA projects at Texas State Parks. Captains run the day on site: they check in volunteers, keep everyone safe, keep the work on track, and file a short debrief afterward.

No conservation background is needed. New captains complete a training workshop and shadow an experienced captain before leading on their own. Mileage to projects is reimbursed.
