2024 Green Vest Give Back | Galveston Island State Park

On January 6, 2024, we delivered our second Green Vest Giveback — this time to Galveston Island State Park, whose trust, grit, and partnership helped shape Get Outside Alliance into what it is today.

In the early days of our organization, Galveston Island handed us a challenge we weren’t sure we were ready for: assembling 63 picnic tables and fire rings for brand-new campsites on the beachside of the park, which had been closed since Hurricane Harvey. Staff shortages and storm damage had stalled progress for years, but with 18 volunteers, sweat, and determination, we got the job done — and helped accelerate the reopening of a beloved coastal section. That day was grueling, but it redefined what we believed we were capable of. Since then, Galveston Island State Park has remained a cornerstone partner, led by an incredible team and a superintendent, Kyle, who’s championed our mission from the start. To show our thanks, we partnered with Stafford High School students to create personalized thank-you boxes for every member of the park staff. Because when a team helps build your identity, you show up to honor theirs.
